Who We Are
We are the British Basketball Fans Association (BBFA) — a growing, unified voice for fans of British basketball across the UK. Formed in response to deep concerns about the current state and future of the domestic game, we exist to ensure that fans are heard, respected, and actively involved in shaping the sport we love.
Why We Exist
British basketball is at a crossroads. A growing disconnect between the British Basketball Federation (BBF) and the current pro league operator (Super League Basketball Ltd) has created confusion, uncertainty, and frustration among supporters. The BBF’s move to grant a license to a new, unproven league operator has raised fears of instability, further fragmentation, and a lack of transparency.
We believe that fans — the people who buy tickets, watch games, support clubs, and grow the culture — deserve a clear voice in decisions that affect the future of the sport.
Our Mission
To unite fans of British basketball in a shared mission to advocate for transparency, accountability, and sustainable growth within the domestic game.
Our Vision
We envision a thriving British basketball ecosystem where:
The men’s and women’s professional leagues are competitive, well-promoted, and steadily expanding into new regions across the UK.
The men’s and women’s GB national teams — at both senior and age group levels — are well-supported, effectively run, and competing with pride on the international stage.
Homegrown talent is nurtured and developed across all pathways — from players and coaches to referees and administrators.
Fans are respected, heard, and actively included in the governance and future of the game.
Our Core Values
Transparency
We believe decisions that affect the game should be made openly and honestly — with clear communication and access to information for all stakeholders, especially fans.
Accountability
Those in charge of the sport — from governing bodies to league operators — must answer for their actions, own their mistakes, and work in the best interests of the game.
Unity
We aim to bring together fans from every level — grassroots, pro, national — and foster collaboration across clubs, regions, and communities.
Sustainability
British basketball must be built to last. That means long-term planning, responsible leadership, and investment in pathways for players, coaches, referees, and clubs.
Fan Empowerment
The people who support this game week in and week out deserve a voice in shaping its future. The BBFA exists to make that voice stronger, clearer, and harder to ignore.
Our Immediate Priorities
Clarity on the Future
We seek open communication from the BBF and SLB about the direction of the domestic pro league, so fans can understand and support the path forward.
Transparency Across the Game
We believe fans deserve honest, regular updates from all governing bodies — and a voice in shaping the sport’s future.
Build the Fan Movement
We aim to unite supporters across the UK and grow the BBFA into a strong, organised voice that reflects the passion and loyalty of British basketball fans.
What We Want to See
Constructive collaboration between BBF, SLB, and future league operators
Protection and support for existing professional clubs
Better development pathways for players, coaches, and officials
Improved visibility and access for fans (broadcasting, media, venues)
Clear, inclusive plans for the long-term growth of the sport
Our Long-Term Goals
Fan representation in advisory roles within British basketball governance
A recognised voice in national conversations about the sport
Annual reporting and public accountability from governing bodies
The development of local BBFA chapters to engage communities across the UK
